How You Use TechSoup Survey
The goal of the How You Use TechSoup survey was to better understand how users utilize TechSoup’s full suite of services. The survey ran on TechSoup from May 2nd 2007 till June 4th 2007. There were a total of 523 respondents.

Respondents were asked why they first registered to become a My TechSoup member. 54.5% of survey respondents reported that they became a My TechSoup member in order to make a product donation request. 30.8% of respondents reported that receiving By the Cup was the main draw for becoming a My TechSoup member. In addition nearly 30% of respondents reported that TechSoup’s full suite of services was the primary driver for joining.
The main reasons our community comes to TechSoup is in order to get Discounted Products and Stay informed about latest technology innovations.
Respondents were asked why they come to TechSoup. 85% of respondents reported that they visit TechSoup in order to get discounted and/or donated products. 61.6% of respondents reported using TechSoup to stay informed about latest technology innovations.
TechSoup is being used in Technology planning
TechSoup for several years now has been trying to encourage nonprofits to adopt technology planning. Our efforts seem to be fruitful. Nearly 1/3 of respondents reported that they used TechSoup to develop a technology plan.
TechSoup is primarily viewed as a place to select and receive hardware and software products. It is NOT an information source for implementing or troubleshooting specific products.
Respondents were asked if they utilized Techsoup for the following: assistance with their technology plan, help in purchasing hardware, help in purchasing software, assistance with software implementation. 62% of respondents reported using TechSoup to investigate software purchases and 42% of respondents reported using TechSoup to research hardware purchases.
The community does not use TechSoup information for implementation information. Only 19% reported using TechSoup for software implementation. However, it is important to note that respondents did report that this information would be helpful or very helpful at high rates. So it seems that respondents would like implementation and troubleshooting information but do not currently use TechSoup for this information.
TechSoup Community is most interested in comparing charts and articles comparing prices and features of multiple products in a category for both hardware and software.
Survey respondents were asked what additional information that they would find helpful in assisting them in making hardware and software purchases. 54% of all respondents reported that charts and articles comparing prices and features of multiple products in a category relating to software would be helpful or very helpful. 35% of all survey respondents reported that charts and articles comparing prices and features of multiple products in a category relating to hardware would be helpful or very helpful.
