What do we mean by "digital storytelling"?
According to Wikipedia "Digital Storytelling refers to using digital tools so that ordinary people can tell their own real-life stories." Nonprofits are among the storytellers who are using digital tools to tell compelling stories, showcase their work, engage their constituents, and spread awareness.
Key Dates:
- 9/30: Event Day 1 - Live 2-part Webinar
- Part 1 is a Roundtable of companies providing tools for digital storytelling (9:00am PST - 10:30am PST)
- Part 2 is a Roundtable of nonprofits doing digital storytelling work (11:00am PST - 12:45pm PST)
- 10/1: Event Day 2 - Live Webinar (9:00am PST - 10:00am PST)
- How to create a digital story from start to finish
- This kicks off the Digital Storytelling Challenge where organizations submit either a 5-panel picture story or a 60 second video to tell their story
- Discussions continue in the TechSoup Forums throughout the duration of the Challenge.
- 10/1-10/19: Digital Storytelling Challenge Submission Period
- During this 2 week Challenge time frame, different partners each week will host the TechSoup forums discussion and be featured on TechSoup.org. Challenge submissions are due by Monday October 19, 9 AM Pacific.
- 10/19-10/20: Challenge submissions judging by expert panel
- 10/21: Challenge winner(s) announced on TechSoup.org
- 10/21: Challenge Submission to be screened in the virtual world of Second Life and Live in San Francisco at TechSoup headquarters

Not in the bay area? No problem, you can take part in the event via TweetChat and/or the drive-in movie theater in Second Life. Here's a step-by-step how-to.
